"NEIGHBORS"

I belong to a small group of ladies who used to belong to an organization known long ago as the Extension Homemakers.  We call ourselves The Neighbors, even though none of us lives near another!  Our premise is that in the broad sense of the word, everyone is our neighbor and our goal is to be good neighbors to everyone.  We support the Franklin County Family Resource Center,  the local Volunteer Fire Departments and the Ronald McDonald House.  In September of each year, we also provide school supplies to the Burnt Chimney Elementary School.  This past February we participated in Valentines for Vets.  Once a year we have a "song-fest" for the residents of the Franklin County Health Care Center. complete with a pianist and kazoos.  Our most recent endeavor has been to participate in Operation Teddy Bear, one of the many outreach programs of an organization called "Gleaning for the World".  They collect previously loved Teddy Bears and send them to orphanages around the world.  Acturally, they have a huge warehouse full of merchandise which has been donated to them which they then ship all over the world.  Although we have only been an independent club for less than a year and are small in number (14) we do try to make a difference by our "Neighborly" deeds.

Neighbors always have time to party.  Here are some of our group at a Luau held recently on our
    back porch.

At the table on the left are Ginny Smith, Sue Ward, Margaret Jamison, Edna Navratil, and Ruth Turner.  In the back is Evelyn Martin.  At the table on the right are Marie Pfaff, Joyce Almond and Pat Morrow.

These four ladies represented our group and carried our Tedy Bears to Appamatox to the "Gleaning for the World" warehouse.  These are only a few of the many teddy bears that we collected.  From left to right they are: Sue Ward, Margaret Jamison and Eleanor Wandelt.

Here we are, at our Christmas party at Margaret Jamison's. I should have taken some pictures of her beautiful home, but forgot my camera.  This picture was taken by Margaret's husband, CO.
