OCTOBER 30,
2005 Tomorrow is Halloween. I
wonder if we will have any Trick or Treaters? Last year we
did not. However, I am prepared for them once again. If
no one comes, then Linc will have a lot of Candy Kisses to eat!
It looks as though I am going to prepare
a Turducken sometime next month for David. Actually, he is
going to order one sent here, and he and his room-mates will come
over to celebrate AJ's 21st Birthday. Unfortunately, it will
have to be a "dry" celebration as David won't be 21 until
February, and I, as his loving grandmother, refuse to have the means
of cheating available to him. But I am looking forward
to the challenge of cooking that Turducken! Yesterday
we took a ride to the hills of Fairfield County on a picture taking
expedition. The pictures came out lovely. However, there
was not a lot of "fall scenery" available for us
to photograph. Later we picked Rob up
at the Airport and he had dinner with us. We had a nice
visit, and he told us that Margaret has still not been able
to get to her temporary quarters in Ft. Lauderdale due to the last
Hurricane. She has not been able to register Phillip
in school either, as the schools are still closed for the same reason.
So Margaret and Phillip are still at Margaret's brother's.
The yarn for Carrie's baby blanket is in and Sarah
will bring it on Wednesday when she comes for Family Night.
Sadly, a dear friend at the Lake, Joan Talbott, passed
away yesterday. It was something none of us had anticipated,
really--I knew she was ill, but never dreamed it would end this
way. David has been keeping us posted via E-Mail, and not
until late last week did he mention the possibility that she would
leave us. I am really devastated.
OCTOBER
23,2005 It is still nasty out! Nothing
at all exciting to write about this week. Gloria cancelled
the Pumpkin Parade as the weather was terrible--rain and more rain!
I had finished the purple tablecloth for Gloria's Patio
table and Linc and I had gone over so that I could cut
and tie all of the pieces of red plastic to make a Big Red
Hat from her Patio Umbrella. Now, everything will be put away
for another time! All of my back-ordered Tastefully
Simple items arrived. I still have to sort through them to
be sure I got everything. Family night at Chris and Carrie's
was great - everyone was there and we had a good time! Sarah
will be over tomorrow for lunch and to spend the rest of the day
with me, so I still have something pleasant to look forward to!
OCTOBER
16, 2005 Today is Sunday, and we
are waiting for Gloria and Tim to pick us up to go to a Smorgesborg
somewhere. They are the first people we have met since moving
to Ohio who have asked us to join them. I'll tell how it is
later. Gloria is the head honcho of our Red Hat Group and
apparently we are having some difficulties with the Flat Bed we
have lined up to decorate and ride for the Pumpkin Parade on Friday
Night. I hope we are able to go through with it as we
have put in an awful lot of work on it thus far. I'll have to go
down stairs later and finish the table cloth I started, by gluing
3 pieces of plastic fabric together. I hope my glue worked
as I really don't care to staple the seams together. The
gals really liked the 4 umbrellas that Shirley and I decorated as
hats. Yesterday they picked up the Pink one, and were thrilled!
Yesterday was my Simply Tasteful party, and there were
13 of us, including Ellen, who was the 'demonstrator'. It
seemed to be going well until someone mentioned the sodium content
of some of the items, and so I guess not many people ordered much.
Fortunately, I wasn't really in it for what I could get out
of it--I just thought it would be fun to have the party, and knew
that it would help out Marsha. Anyway, we had lots to eat,
and I think everyone had a good time, regardless of the sodium!
OCTOBER
11,2005 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, US !!
WOW! 53 years! Other than looking in the mirror, it's
hard to believe that we have been together that long! We no
longer exchange gifts, but we do give each other cards, and I literally
spent hours on the one I gave Linc. His card to me was sweet,
as well. Tonight we will go out to dinner to the Refectory,
a French Restaurant in Columbus. My only wish is that we make
it to 60 (in good health, of course!) or more! I know you won't
read this, but, "Happy Anniversary, Hon!"
OCTOBER
08,2005 It's a drizzly day here. I
guess Ohio's bleak wintry days are about to begin. But then
we knew that "the sun doesn't shine in the winter in Ohio"
when we moved back, so will just have to make the best of it.
I have been working hard at my computer. I have almost
all the greeting cards done for the year. (I still have to
do two!) Today I began on the Christmas Cards. Now they
are all printed and the envelopes addressed. We had
to go out to buy some more envelopes but now I just have to
fold the cards and write my little notes when the Holiday Season
is closer. I'm so glad the worst is over. This printer
apparently only prints one envelope at a time! and it's really a
pain. But the job is done. Today I also made
Name Tags for my Tastefully Simple food party next Saturday. I hope
that everyone who said they were coming actually comes. I
really don't care for myself, but hate to have Ellen come out
for nothing. I wonder if she already has a name tag that she
uses? Guess I will have to call her.
OCTOBER
06,2005 Another Red Hat for the float is
done. Actually, it is pink as one lady who is attending the
parade is not old enough to wear a Red Hat! I can't remember
being that young! Anyway, Shirley came over and we did the
job, which turned out well. Our neighbors, the Fortner's
came over for a brief visit. He owns an Upholstery Company,
and I will probably have them fix our sofa and love seat after the
holidays. They really seemed to like my silk arrangements, and I
may get some work for their new store - but I told them only if
I can do it here at home. We shall see what happens. Last
night was Family Night, here, and we had a great time. I gave
them "Ghosts" which I had made and were filled with
Reese Cups, for which they were grateful. (For the Reese Cups,
that is--I'm not sure whether or not they really liked them, except
for the candy!) Today entailed a lot of running around.
Linc had a 9:30 am Dr's appointment up north. I sat
in the car and did some work on Sarah's baby's blanket. I
am actually on the next to the last skein of wool! Hooray!!
But then, I have to make one for Carrie, so guess I still
have a lot to do. (The girls are both "showing" now, and
it is fun to listen to them compare notes. Then we went
on a search for some shoes for me. I have decided that since
I can't walk much anyway, I might as well wear some decent
looking shoes, so I can get out of these pants and put some skirts
on for a change. Well, it was not as easy as it sounds. I
knew that I had weird feet, but now that I don't have much feeling
in them, they're even worse. But after 4 stores
we finally found a pair that aren't too bad. I did wear them
home, and while they did feel funny on my feet, I think they will
work. I hope. OCTOBER
02, 2005 Is it October. already?
We had a lovely visit from Carol this week-end. She
came down from Michigan to celebrate her father's birthday! She
came for dinner on Friday Night, and we had David over as well.
I had put the meat in the crock pot as we weren't sure what
time she would arrive, and baked some pumpkin pies for dessert,
as I think they are Linc's favorite dessert!! On
Saturday we went to the Italian Festival, where David met us, and
we had lunch. From there we went to the German Festival, but
since we weren't hungry, there was nothing much to convince us to
stay. So we went to the Franklin Conservatory and had a nice
time looking at everything. Then we met Sarah, Chris and Carrie
at City Barbecue for dinner as they all wanted to see "Auntie
Carol". Linc and I went to the Fall Festival
at Veteran's Memorial on Friday and had fun looking at everything.
It was mostly Home Improvement stuff, which we of course,
being in a new Condo, do not need. But it was fun, never-the-less!
And we did buy some stainless steel cookware so I can now
use the Induction Burner that Linc gave me for Christmas! Also
on Friday, we bought some Poinsettias and pumpkins, and "did"
the front porch for the fall season. (And Halloween!) I
think it really looks nice. Then we had an actual visit from
one of our neighbors, Darcy. She and I talked for at least
an hour. Unfortunately, they will be leaving to winter in
Florida soon. But hopefully, we will get together when they
return. I did a fresh arrangement in a pumpkin basket,
with a little scarecrow in it, and have put a Halloween cloth on
the table and today I also bought some bags of candy with which
to make ghosts using white tissue paper so I am officially ready
for the fall season.
