Where does all the time go? Didn't we just
get back from Chicago? Tuesday Night was Family night, and
we had a good time! Carrie couldn't make it - but she is just about
finished with school-hooray! Dr. Fish! So Chris got
to open the baby gift we brought back from Chicago. Sarah
opened hers . They were both identical 'Bears with Blankees",
and of course will be put away until the babies arrive!
Wednesday, we took Angie's money for Kitty-sitting to Fran's
and she gave me some Zuchinni. We had a nice visit with her
cousin and sister, as well. David called and so we had him
over for dinner which was soo-o nice! And tonight Rob is coming
over for dinner which will be a cook-out. David and
friends have been invited over on the 4th for a Fourth of July Cook-out,
so now we are waiting to hear if they are coming.
JUNE 27, 2005
We just got back from Chicago, where we had such a nice time.
I had never been there, so Linc took me there for my Birthday.
Of course, Rob rode with us as we had made plans for him and
Margaret to show us the sights. Never mind that we were stuck
on I70 going there with a lot of construction, so we
decided to come home by way of I80, and guess what, more construction
and traffic! So we cut across on Rt. 30 to Rt.33, and while
it took a bit longer than normal, at least it was a pleasant
ride. But, Linc and I met Margaret's two daughters, Cassandra
and Stefannie, who are just as nice as Margaret is, making the whole
trip more enjoyable! After arriving at the
Marriott Suites on Thursday Night, we met Margaret at Giardanos
Restaurant. (Margaret's daughter, Cassandra also joined us there.)
Margaret had already ordered the Pizza's so we did not have
to wait long for dinner. They have a deep dish pizza, the
likes of which I have never seen. It must have been at least
3 inches deep and was so-o-o good! Margaret gave me a beautiful
arrangement of Orchids ( which, of course I am still enjoying) and
then further surprised me with a Birthday Cake. It was a beautiful
evening with wonderful people! On Friday, we walked around
town, seeing the sights. (OK, they all walked while
I was pushed in the wheelchair!) Then we went to Billy Goat
Tavern for lunch. This was an old, old restaurant, famous
for it's Cheeseborgers and yes, that's how they spelled it. "No
Fries, just Chips", said their sign. Anyway, it was a
lot of fun! And the restaurant was under the Ell. Very
eerie! From there everyone (but me) walked over to take
the Boat Cruise. It was kind of hot, but Linc and I and Phil
did get to sit where it was shady at least most of the time. Margaret
and Rob were in the sun, I'm afraid. But the boat trip was
very interesting. It was a guided tour with all the buildings
we saw talked about. Then we went through the locks and out
on Lake Michigan for a bit before returning through the locks and
hearing more about the buildings. Of course we had dinner
that evening - this time at Miller's Pub in Wabash, where we
all ate different entrees - mine being a delicious Prime Rib. I'll
say this for the food in Chicago - it's good!! On Saturday,
Linc and I went shopping at Von Maur's (Very Pricey) for Baby
Gifts. Then back to the Motel where we met Rob and Margaret
and went for lunch at Portillo's, another fun place - famous
for their hot dogs, but Linc and I had Italian Sausage sandwiches.
Yummy! From there it was off to the Flower Shop in
a hospital where Margaret is the Manager of a beautiful
and large operation. Next. it was off to the Navy Pier,
where we a sumptuous dinner at Joe's B-Bop Cafe`, compliments of
Rob. After dinner we went to the Chicago Store where I bought
a few souvenirs. From there we went to the Theater where Rob
and Margaret had purchased tickets to a Musical Production of Romeo
and Juliet for my Birthday. It was truly a funny production,
subtitled, "The People vs. Friar Laurence, The Man Who Killed
Romeo and Juliet." Go see it if you can! We stayed
around for the Fireworks as the fog rolled in from the lake.
On Sunday we all, Phillip, Stefannie, Cassandra, Margaret,
Rob, Linc and I, went to the Millenium Park down town where we strolled
around, with some of our group splashing in the fountain. (There
were lots of other children running around and enjoying the water!)
From there we 'did' The Taste of Chicago, which is in its
25th year, and consisted of miles and miles (or so it seemed) of
food vendors selling everything from Chocolate Covered Bananas on
a stick to Pickles on a Stick. We had some shrimp that was
delicious as well as cheesecake and ice cream. Others in our
gang with more expansive appetites, ate from one end to the other
and back to the beginning again!! We went back to the Motel
for much needed naps. Later it was off to Sweet Tomatoes for
the most delicious salads, pastas, breads and desserts. Just
what we needed after all that heavy eating earlier. From there,
we went back to the motel where Rob, Margaret and Phillip went for
a refreshing swim in the combination Indoor-Outdoor Pool. Monday
Morning we met for breakfast in the Pancake House, said our good-bye to
Margaret and left for the long trip home. And reading
over all of this, I think it is safe to say tasted our way through
all of Chicago, not just during the official "Taste
of Chicago!" A special
Thank You to Margaret and to Rob for a wonderful long weekend, filled
to the brim with interesting things to do (and eat!)

Happy Birthday
to Me! Yes, would you believe that I am another year older
today---the longest day of the year, of course! Thank you,
everyone who remembered and sent a card, called or E-mailed.
My day was full of pleasant surprises, culminating with a
lovely cook-out at Rob's with some of the grandchildren. Those
who couldn't make it called, and so everything about today was
wonderful! Linc and I just got home, and I am ready for bed
but wanted to take the time to thank everyone before calling it
a day! Thank you, All.
JUNE 19,2005
This is one of the happiest days of my life! Rob,
Brian, David, Chris, Carrie, Dad and myself were invited to TJ &
Sarah's for a Father's Day Celebration. Imagine my surprise
when I saw all the Birthday Banners and crepe paper streamers!!
It was also a Birthday Party for me! (The real date of my 75th
is Tuesday, but Chris and Carrie can't be there.) And
my gifts were Wool, in pretty pastel green, yellow and blue from
Sarah and TJ, and a Grandmother's Book from Carrie and
Chris! And yes, both couples are pregnant and 'expecting'
within days of each other!! And yes, Linc and I will be Great
Grandparents!! I am so happy!! And so-o-o glad we moved
back to Ohio!! The girls and I now have so much shopping
to do!! We all had a fun Brunch. Father's Day cards
were given out, and Chris and Carrie, who knew of Sarah and TJ's
good news, gave Sarah some special pillows for when she 'balloons'
out a little. I know there is probably lots
more to write about, but Rob and Brian are on their way down to
show "B" our new 'digs' and then it's back to California
for him.
JUNE 17,2005
Last night was Family Night at Rob's. There were 9 of
us there. Brian, of course, has flown in from Calif. to be
in a wedding on Saturday. He looks great and is happy with
his new job. Carrie only has a few weeks to go of her Internship,
but she is still working hard. Chris is nursing a sore foot, compliments
of Soccer, And Sarah managed to bring TJ, which added to the
festivities! The Banana Pudding I made was a big hit, and
there was no Pasta left after we gave David some to take back to
his apartment. On the whole, it was a fun night out and we
stayed longer than usual. I received the nicest E-mail
from Edie and Neil at the lake today. Neil's cancer is in
remission. Hooray for him! As much as I am enjoying
the close proximity of the family, here, I surely do miss our friends
at the Lake! And what a nice surprise - Grand daughter,
Katie just called from Salt Lake City. She sounds happy, which
of course, makes me happy, too. She is getting her Master's
Degree in Education and says that Dave will resume his college education
in the fall. Katie seems to really enjoy living in Salt Lake
City! We are happy for her, but of course, miss her terribly! Today
was a lazy day, although it looks as though we have wasps coming
into the condo. We've gotten rid of three of them so far, but can't
seem to find where they are coming in. Linc bought some bug killer
today, but since we really don't know where they are coming from...
A package came from daughter, Carol today along with
Father's Day and Birthday cards. Linc and I haven't decided whether
to open the gift on Father's Day or wait for my birthday. Will
let you know what it is when we open it!
JUNE 15,2005
Yesterday was Flag Day. I can remember when I was a
child, seeing all the flags flying, and my grandfather telling me
that they were in his honor because it was his birthday! And
of course, I believed him for many years! So, although he
has been gone these many, many years, I always think of him
on Flag Day. Happy Birthday, Grampa! And we got
another pleasant surprise last night- David came over to dinner.
His 'roomies' have all taken off for various places and he
somehow remembered that Rob was coming over, so called and
asked if he could come, as well. The 5 of us had a pleasant
(and delicious, of course) dinner together and I sent David back
to his apartment with his dinner for tonight. Brian is coming
in on Thursday morning (I thought he was coming in yesterday) and
we will have our Family Night that night, at Rob's. Linc
and I will go out and about later, and I guess that's all for today!
JUNE
14,2005 I subbed at Bunko again last night
and won another $20. Such fun! Linc is downstairs, painting
the cement walls of the basement white to make it lighter down there.
He has already put in more lights and outlets. I am
having a workshop in August so we are slowly getting the downstairs
ready. The shirts we bought him yesterday are too
big, so when he is finished we will go exchange them. Then
Rob is coming over for dinner tonight. Aside from that,
it is hot out, and there's not much else to write about.
JUNE
13,2005 Such a pleasant surprise
we just had, although it was all too brief- Bill and Tee stopped
in to say 'hi' on their way to Columbus to Tee's brother's. It
was so good to see them. We haven't seen them since last February
at Myrtle Beach. Tee has not been well, but is beginning to
get back to normal and looks good. Bill always looks good!
We had a nice week-end--- Margaret was in from Chicago to
do a wedding, and so we took a ride over there on Friday. (I wrapped
stems for her!) She does such nice work! Then Saturday
night they came down for dinner and then the 4 of us went to the
movies. A very enjoyable evening! I wish there were
some way the two of them could get together permanently, but at
present I guess there are just too many obstacles in their way!
Hopefully they will figure out something, as we have become
very fond of Margaret. Tonight I sub at Bunko, and I believe
that tomorrow, grandson, "B" is flying in from California
to be in a wedding on Saturday. I know he has duties
for the wedding, but hopefully we will see a lot of him before he
flies back on Sunday! Oh, and Rob fixed my Eudora! Hooray!
I do enjoy my E-mail!
JUNE
9,2005 It is hot out! I haven't been
out all day. Pawn and her friend are here, cleaning the
house, and I hope they are cool enough! She brought some beautiful
vegetables from her garden which we will be enjoying this week:
lettuce, asparagus, broccoli and lots of strawberries. I
don't really like strawberries, but Linc does, and I'm sure the
rest of the family does, so I am just cleaning them and then freezing
them on a cookie sheet until I can bag them, then Linc or whoever
can just pour out enough to enjoy. My Eudora E-mail service
is down and I don't know how to fix it, but Rob is coming over tonight
and I am sure he will figure it out! It's nice to have a Computer
Guru in the family! Linc doesn't like anything about the computer,
so I am stuck until Rob gets here.
JUNE 7, 2005 I
can't believe how fast time flies around here. I swear
it was only yesterday that I entered May 30th news here!! But
then, life in Ohio is rather dull at times, and there really isn't
much to write about! However, Linc finally got his Hearing
Aids yesterday. He's still not sure that they are something
he really needs. I guess only time will tell. We are
due to go back in 2 weeks, so maybe he'll know by then. Tonight
is Family Night and it is at Rob's so we will haul everything in.
I made a big casserole of Spaghetti, Mozzerella Cheese, Chicken
and sauce. Hope it tastes good! Then I baked a Blueberry
Pie, and of course, we have the usual salad and bread. Also
some cucumbers as Chris really enjoys them. David wrote that Caroline
won't be able to make it, as she has to work. I do hope that
Carrie can come, too, since we will be at Rob's. She 'only'
has this month of June to get through and she will finally be finished
at OSU. I don't think that Dr. Fish has decided where she
will work yet, and Chris says that she will take at least a month
to relax before finding a job. Good for her!! Chris is having
a big party for her early in July. We had a guy come
look at our sky light and the windows on the porch and are going
to have a film put on them, which will cut down on the heat in here.
At least I hope so, as it is nearly 94 outside and even with
the 'air' on, it is warm in here! Guess that's all for
now.
