December 1, 2007

Oldest grandson, Chris, and his wife, Carrie, and their daughter, Allison, had a bouncing baby boy today.

DECEMBER 19, 2006
Good Heavens!  It's nearly Christmas, and it's been over a month since I recorded anything here!
But here's a quick rundown and much condensed version of what has transpired in the Fish Household:
Thanksgiving has come and gone--Carol and Bert came, as did Sarah, TJ and Audry (who came early to visit, but had their dinner with TJ's family,) Chris, Carrie and Allison were here for dinner, and Carrie's sister, Becka also came.   We  had a great time, dinner was good, (Carrie brought wonderful home made rolls and a jello salad) and I didn't go near the kitchen after dinner.  My 'elves' cleaned up everything! We immediately froze all the leftover Turkey, dressing and gravy, which we enjoyed a week later at Family Night, when we had Hot Turkey Sandwiches and Tater Tots!
Carrie and Sarah came over with the babies, and baked cookies--(I had baked mine prior to their coming) and we had our 3rd annual cookie swap.  The house is all decorated, the packages all wrapped and I am now ready for Christmas!
Shirley and I went to see The Nutcracker and it was wonderful! Linc dropped us off and picked us up at the Theater!   Linc and I also took Grandson, David, to have his 4 Wisdom teeth extracted and he spent the day and night with us. But he had a marvelous and quick recovery, and virtually no pain. I plied him with home made Split Pea Soup, jello, pudding, applesauce and ice cream.  He had a teriffic appetite!  The followig morning he ate oatmeal and pronounced himself ready to go back to work !  He even went over to help his cousin, Sarah, move into her new home!  We were so glad that he had such a seemingly easy time of it!
Rob will be over for dinner tonight.  Last week he took me Christmas Shopping for Linc. Tonight we will just enjoy the evening. (Although I do have a few computer problems for his to address!)
And I guess that brings me up to date.  Except I don't think I can 'publish' this asRob has changed my Web Site or something, and has to do a little more 'tweaking', I guess.  But hopefully, you will be able to read this soon.

NOVEMBER 05, 2006
It's nearly Election Day and we are being bombarded with 'ads' from all the candidates.  If you could believe everything you see and hear on TV, you'd surely believe that all the candidates were idiots!  I will be so-o glad when Election Day is over!  Of course, I have a pretty good idea of for whom I am going to vote, but I'm still undecided about some of the candidates.  More research, I guess!
Bunco is here next Monday, and since my feet are so uncooperative, I ordered a lot of food from The Anderson's.  And while we were there, took a brief tour through their Christmas display which was huge.  But we were there long enough for me to fall in love with a 3 ft. lighted Snowman.  He looks as though he were made of giant ice cubes!  And guess what my darling Linc did- while I was out to lunch with some friends, he drove to The Anderson's and bought the Snowman for me!
One of the radio stations is already playing Christmas carols, non stop, but I refuse to listen or be caught up in the Christmas thing (except for my beautiful Snowman, of course!) until after Thanksgiving!  I think it is terrible that other than the grocery stores, Thanksgiving just does not exist!  Just try to buy some Thanksgiving dishes or figurines, or anything else Thanksgiving related.  Halloween was huge, and now everything is Christmas!  I love Christmas.  It is just about my favorite time of the year, but NOT 'TIL AFTER THANKSGIVING, PLEASE!
Speaking of Thanksgiving, we are expecting a wonderful crowd and after Monday's Bunco, I will begin planning for it.

OCTOBER 31, 2006
It's Halloween, but you'd never know it!  The porch light is on, the porch is decorated, but nary a  soul has come Trick or Treating!  Of course, none came last year, but still I was hoping...
We have just returned from Smith Mountain Lake, VA., where we spent a few wonderful days. Linc had some business there with his IRA, and decided rather than do it by phone or mail we would go there for a few days.   We stayed with Eleanor and Allan, and could not have had nicer hosts.  They told us to go our way and see whomever we wanted.  They were just pleased that we chose to stay with them!  They have two lovely cats who enjoyed sitting on Linc's lap!  One of them sat on my lap for a few minutes before deciding that Linc's lap was much nicer!
Anyway, we got there on Wednesday evening and had a lovely dinner with Eleanor and Allan. On Thursday we met Babe and Larry for lunch and had a wonderful visit with them.  Babe really wanted to visit with us 'one on one'  and so we did!  Linc and I drove around afterwards and were amazed at how businesses and homes at the Lake had grown!  We drove around Lynville on the Lake, where we used to live, and saw a new sign at the entrance, many new homes and Speed Bumps!  Such progress.  Our ex-neighbors, Bill and Shelly, were not home, so we left a note.  Hope they got it!
From there we stopped in to see Margaret and CO's brand new home.  It is huge, and furnished beautifully. (As was their old home!)  They are still in the process of doing a lot of yard work.  I am glad we live in a Condo and don't have all of that to worry about, but they seem to enjoy it.  Of course, they are more than a few years younger than we are!
Then at 6 PM we went to Dot and Richard's for dinner.  It was so nice to visit with them.  We used to go out to dinner with them quite often and of course, played cards with them and Babe and Larry.  Gale and Bob also played with us, but we didn't get to see them as they were in Florida already.
Friday was Eleanor's day.  We went out to lunch, and then shopping ( all four of us).  It was fun, but then we went back and got Eleanor's car and she and I really had a great time - just like old times - shopping!!  Friday night was a big dinner at Westlake.  There were 13 of us there, and we got to visit with some very good friends - Patti and Lee, Adele and Jimmy, Pat and Wally, Dave Talbott, Dot and Richard, and of course, the Wandelts and us.  I got pictures of all the couples, so will have lots of wonderful memories!

OCTOBER 23, 2006
Sometimes I have a difficult time remembering what has transpired since the last posting! Mostly, my computer has been 'in the shop' for repairs.  I have been unable to burn CD's, and the only reason I have a camera is so that I can put the pictures on a CD and use them in my greeting cards!  Of course, now I don't have any pictures so I won't know for a while whether or not the dumb computer is really fixed!
We had a great Family night last week, tho.  Carrie's mom, Kate, now is living at Rob's  (long story there!) so was able to come to Family Night.  We missed David, of course, as he has classes on Wednesday nights.  However this week Family night will be on Thursday night, and that means David will be there, but Carrie will not!  We truly do miss Carrie, but Chris brings Allison, and I hate to say this, but how we do enjoy Allison! (Sorry Carrie, we love you, too!) Thankfully, Sarah is always there with Audry!  The little girls are growing up so fast!  They are 8 months old now, and when I look at the pictures of when they were born I am amazed at how they have grown!
We seem to be doing a lot of shopping lately - most of my clothes seem to be too big for me. I don't know why I am losing weight.  I need to, and am glad to, but other than this awful Neuropathy, I don't feel ill at all.  Well, I guess I won't look a gift horse in the mouth!  My feet don't  hurt as much if I can keep them down on the floor.  However, I haven't figured out how to do that when in bed!  And now, my fingers 'burn' a lot - I hope this thing doesn't get any worse!
Tomorrow night Rob is coming for dinner, and David might come as well.  Linc will be at his Bowling, and I will cook for my son and grandson!

OCTOBER 14, 2006
Whoopee!  I feel great this morning!  Actually too great, I guess.  I'm still trying to regulate the medications for my Neuropathy, and guess I overdid it last night.  I am trying to balance out the Lyrica and the Ultram ER.  Alone, neither one does the job of making me pain free, but together, they seem to work .  I must say, I feel no pain, but I am 'high', I think, and that's not good, really.  I will  take the Ultram earlier tonight and see how it goes.  But at least I don't hurt today, and that is wonderful and happens so rarely.  I'm sure I was a little "high" when
we celebrated out 54th Wedding Anniversary on the 11th and had such a wonderful time!
We went to the Melting Pot for dinner.  And there, on our table, was a dozen roses that Linc had ordered! (and he had also arranged for our photo to be taken and put in a beautiful Pewter frame at the conclusion of our dinner!)  Dinner took nearly 3 hours!  We started out with appetizers to dip into the  Cheddar Cheese fondue to cook.   There were all kinds of vegetables and bread cubes to be leisurely cooked  and eaten while we laughed like a pair of newly-weds, instead of the doddering old couple that we are!  Next came a delicious salad, which we ate "as is"-(no cooking necessary.)
All this was followed by a 'Coq au Vin' fondue to be heated before cooking all of the different kinds of meats: Teriyake Sirloin, Black Tiger Shrimp,(a half dozen!) Citrus Marinated Pork Tenderloin, Breast of Chicken, Vegetable Ravioli and two Fillet Mignons.  We simply could not eat the Fillets, so we 'cooked' them and they were put in a box for us to take home and enjoy the next day. Anyway,it was all so delicious and took us forever to cook and eat!  Then, on came the dessert fondue!  The fondue pot was filled with a yummy chocolate mixture (including a liquor of some kind, but which I have forgotten the name of) and we had lots of time to admire all the goodies to dip while the chocolate heated up.  There were fresh strawberries, cherries, cheesecake, pineapple, and slices of banana. Yum Yum.  And we ate every bite!
It was such a fun place to eat.  Our waiter, Ryan, was very friendly and attentive.  But the nicest part of all was that George, the owner, kept coming to see how we were doing.  He was so impressed with the fact that we had been married for 54 years that he chatted with us for quite a while.  He informed us that his Anniversary was the next day, but he couldn't remember if it was three or four years!  He told us that they had lived together for several years before making it legal, so he wasn't sure how many of those years he had been actually married! When we finally got our bill, we saw that he had 'comped' the $45.00 for the roses (and the vase) and the picture in the Pewter frame!  Such a pleasant surprise and lovely Anniversary gift.  Thank you, George!
In all, it was a wonderful way for two people to celebrate 54 years of Marriage.  I think back and it's hard to believe that it has been that many years.  I'm sure there must have been rough spots, but I truly can't remember them!  Our two wonderful children (How great they have both turned out!) and their children (also sucessful and nice!) are all grown, now, and  we are so lucky to have two great granddaughters to enjoy!  Yes, Linc has had a very serious operation for his back, and more recently a TIA which was the reason for our return to be near the family. I have had two operations for cancer- I was told I probably wouldn't see my 40th birthday!  (Guess I showed those doctors!) But now, in spite of my Neuropathy, I would not trade my life with Linc for anything.  He is simply the nicest, sweetest, easiest to get along with, best and most wonderful guy in the world!
And on that note, I'll end this today and go fix us something for lunch!

OCTOBER 10, 2006
Haven't written much lately. My neuropathy has been really terrible, and I haven't slept well since we returned from our trip.  Went to the Dr's  today, and we had a long conversation.  I had thought that perhaps I should be seeing a neurologist, since my feet are so bad.  But after talking it over, decided to stay with Dr. Julie.  She said, and I agree, that since we know the reason for my pain, and she keeps up with the disease, she really can help me just as well as a Neurologist could. (And she is not as expensive as a Neurologist would be!)   At any rate, she upped my dosage of Lyrica and agreed that on really bad days I could take the Ultram as well. Actually, I could probably take them both every day, but I really don't want to.  I have this 'thing' about taking a pill just to be taking it.  If I don't think it is really helping I won't take it! She also said that since I seem to develop such a resistance to medication, the Lyrica dosage can be upped again and again.  So I guess I will stay with it for a while, at any rate.  Lyrica was developed just for Neuropathy, so it should help.  We shall hope so!!  It's really hard for me to accept that the Neuropathy doesn't care that I try very hard to watch what I eat, and keep my testing numbers quite low.  Each day I find it harder to cope. Today was a particularly bad day for me.  I really try  to go out and about and live as normal a life as I can, but some days it is harder than others.  And it's no fun that I don't drive any more- so I am dependent upon others to take me places!  Enough! Enough!

OCTOBER 05, 2006
It's been a busy week or so!  Mostly good, although a few bad days squeezed in, feetwise.  We went to the German Festival on Friday Night, drank some beer, listened to some nice German Music while some people danced the Polka.  I would have loved to join them, but sadly, my feet didn't think it was such a good idea! (Linc was probably much relieved! But I had a delicious potato pancake, which I haven't tasted in years, while Linc enjoyed some Bratwurst. There were lots of interesting booths to spend money at, if so inclined.  In all, I thought it was pretty nice.
Then on Saturday Afternoon we went to an October Fest at Gloria and Tim's Wine Guild.  We judged some red wine, (made and bottled by some of the members) ate a nice buffet (freshly baked pork) drank some of Tim's good wine, and won a few prizes.  A few brave souls went out in the rain and stomped some wine!  Tim's wine label (designed and printed by me!) won a blue ribbon so it was a festive occasion, made doubly so because Tim and Gloria bought us tickets! And oh, yes, we drank some of the wine that was made from the grapes stomped last year!
On Sunday we went to the Italian Festival.  It was a beautiful, warm, sunny,  summer-like day, and so the grounds were packed!  We paid $10.00 to park, Linc had to push me several blocks to get there, where we paid $5.00 each to get in, and there were so many people that it was difficult to get around.  The streets there were brick, so it was not smooth going in the wheel chair, and poor Linc did his best to push me around.  Between the crowds and the rough going it really was not a pleasant place for us to be.  But we managed to find a place to sit at a table and ate some good Italian food,(expensive, I thought), walked around as best we could, and decided it was not the place for us to be!  I'm not sure we will even try it next year.
On Tuesday, Linc's 79th birthday, we went on a Bus Trip with the Groveport Seniors to see the Tall Stacks in Cincinnati.  We had a full 2 days!  We arrived in Newport, KY where we had lunch and walked around for several hours.  Then it was back onto the bus and a short drive to where we boarded a Paddle Boat for a 2 hour cruise to Coney Island where we boarded the bus again and went to the Starlight Ballroom for dinner and a show.  Then it was back to the Radisson Motel for the night.  It was about 8 o'clock and we were free to wander  around, but too tired to do much.  And it's a good thing we did not plan to join anyone  as soon as I got out of the shower I proceeded to throw up all I had eaten all day!  Needless to say, I didn't feel so hot, and went to bed.  We called room service later as I felt the need to eat something, and managed to keep down a few pieces of toast and a half glass of OJ.  But when I awoke in the morning, I really did not feel sick, so boarded the bus again to the Tall Stacks Festival.
This consisted of acres of land fenced off (don't ask me how!) where we walked around, looked at all the paddle boats (with their Tall Stacks convened below on the river. There were booths and more booths, every place one could look.  Food, food, and more food for sale.  Beer, water, soft drinks for sale, every company on the world had a booth advertising their wares, and of course, things to buy!  Poor Linc had to push me around, and it was so very sunny, but we had a good time just the same.  We bummed around a lot with Shirley (whom we gave a ride to Groveport and back) and Rita.  But we were all glad to get back on the bus for the trip back to Groveport, and we arrived home just before the terrible rains began.

SEPTEMBER 28, 2006
Another dreary day!  Somehow I don't remember late summer and fall being this dreary!  It's hard to be 'up' when the weather is so very 'down'!
The wedding was lovely even if the weather didn't cooperate.  Fortunately, Joe and Nancy had the foresight to put up a couple of huge tents, as we hadn't been there half an hour before it started to pour!  It was fun seeing and talking to all those people.  Most of them we didn't know, but quite a few knew us 'way back when'.  'When' referring to when we lived near here many, many years ago!  It was great visiting more with Gary and Ida, and also with Joe and Nancy. Fortunately for us, we knew one of the caterers,  and, as we were sitting in a rather difficult place to get out of, she really took care of the 4 of us, bringing us all kinds of good food!
Nancy's mom is in her 80's and still looks fabulous!
A good Family Night, this week, too.  Carrie's brother, Cassius came, and so there were 8 of us.  Only David was missing.  I had baked a HUGE meatloaf, and there was barely enough left over to leave for Rob to make a sandwich.  It must have been good.
Both girls were enchanting, as usual!  They are growing like weeds and are such fun to be around!
Carrie's mom will be staying at Rob's beginning next week as she got the job she wanted at OSU.  She will go home on week-ends until their home is sold and/or Dave gets a job down here.
I hope that we will get to the Italian Festival sometime this week-end.  I just don't know when that will be.  Weather permitting and all that!

SEPTEMBER 22, 2006
A dreary day today.  But we had a pleasant, although brief, visit with Gary and Ida who are in town for Chris Gantner's wedding.  So we will see Gary and Ida at the wedding as well as Joe and Nancy (parents of the groom) whom we rarely get to see.  Maybe we can change that!!
Family night this week consisted only of Sarah, Rob, Linc and myself.  Chris was being honored at OSU for being employee of the month.  Yeah! Chris!  I got to hold and play with Audry.  Linc and I went back up to Rob's last night to help him baby-sit Audry so that Sarah and TJ could get some shopping done, and have a nice dinner, just the two of them.  Of course I am glad for any excuse to play with my Great-Grands, so had a lovely visit with Audry! She was 7 months old yesterday, and Allison will be 7 months old tomorrow! They are both growing so fast.
Rob called a few  minutes ago and said that he (and therefore, me ) is switching Internet providers, and there is a possibility that my blog may change as well.  I think we have a few weeks before the change, but I don't imagine it will affect me that much.  We shall see.
Linc just put up the flagpole, so now we can fly our flag when it is appropriate.  And even when it's not and official Flag Flying Day.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2006
Carol left this morning.  It was so good having her here for a few days.  We had David, Chris, Carrie, Sarah and of course, the two babies for dinner on Saturday night.  It was the first opportunity that Carol had to see the little ones since they were tiny.  We are so fortunate that they seem to be happy no matter who holds them, as they sure did get passed around a lot!
I had mentioned to Linc that it wouldn't be long before we would have to clear off the coffee table, which is really a huge old A & P  butcher block that we cleaned up and put on big casters many, many years ago--well, Allison discovered it and can pull herself up holding on to it, and I suspect it won't be long before she figures how to climb onto it.  She sure did try! Needless to say, we had to clear it off.  That old butcher block holds lots of memories, as every one of our grandchildren have climbed all over it.  It is marvelous as the little ones really can't hurt it. (And, anyway, who cares if they do?)  Audry is still content to sit and play. Although, when put on her stomach she seems to be trying to move (backwards, that is!)  I've said it before, and probably will say it many more times, but Great Grandchildren surely are Great!
On Sunday Carol took David and some of his friends out to lunch and then took David shopping. Isn't that what mothers are for?  Anyway, David joined us for dinner again and we had a very pleasant evening.  David is such a big help, and since I am limited in what I can do, he is truly appreciated!

SEPTEMBER 15, 2006
No matter how hard I try, I just can't keep up with this Blog!  We've had two Family Nights since I last wrote.  It is so nice to get together with everyone, and especially to see how our little ones have grown!  You wouldn't think a week would make that much difference, but they are growing by leaps and bounds and each week marks the beginning of a new phase for them, I think.  Just looking back over the pictures since they were born shows how amazing their progress has been.
I played Bunco with the Red Hats Monday night and had fun evern if I didn't win anything.  (I was actually only one place away from winning the Booby Prize!  But Shirley subbed, so at least Linc didn't have to drive me. My turn to host will be in November, and Linc will take Cathie and me on a shopping expedition at The Flower Factory one day next week.  Cathie will host the game in October.
Last night we went up to Rob's again, as Chris and Carrie had asked him to "baby sit". I held and played with Allison while Rob got some of his computer work done. Allison is never still an instant-she's a prime example of Perpetual Motion! She crawls anyplace she can get to, and when held, she 'crawls' all over the holder!  She loves to be on her feet, and I suspect it won't be long before she figures out how they work, and I am exhausted today!
Audry has a tooth coming through!  And for a little one who is teething, she sure was a sweet little girl for us at Family Night!  Both girls have had their 6-months pictures taken, and both girls are of course, beautiful!  (I'm not predjudiced, am I? - But they really are beautiful.) Audry has the most beautiful, huge, brown eyes and the long, curly eyelashes to go with them.
Our good news is that Carol is coming in for a few days tomorrow, so most of the grandchildren and of course, the great-grands, will be here for dinner.  Carol has not seen the babies for several months.  And we don't see nearly enough of Carol.  But fortunately for me, we do see a lot of Rob.  He bought be a beautiful bouquet of flowers last night - for no reason that I know of, and I am truly enjoying them.  So far they have been safe on the end table next to me as Molly has not noticed them - or at least has not yet decided to investigate them.  Hopefully I will not have to move them.

SEPTEMBER 3, 2006
David and AJ came over for dinner last night.  AJ is helping David move into his new apartment, and David wanted to 'reward' him with my home cooking, I think.  Anyway, we had a good dinner and a pleasant few hours with them.  David never stays long, but we do enjoy seeing him.
Today was a quiet day though.  I was supposed to ride in the CW parade with the Red Hats, but did not feel well, so sent my supplies over with Shirley.  Linc drove over to help them get the umbrella and picnic table together.  When Shirley came over later to return everything she said they had a great time!  We drank some good wine and shared some good gossip before she left to go home again.

AUGUST 31.2006
Family Night has come and gone again!  Carrie's  mom and stepdad came.  I had fixed a tremendously large meatloaf, just in case, and it was so good that by the time everyone had eaten their fill and begged some to take home, we had no leftovers!  The baby girls, as usual, were enchanting!  And I got to hold them both.  Allison can get everywhere on her hands and knees, now.  Carrie and Chris will have their hands full, I'm sure! Both girls are getting baby food, now, and Audry really loves it.  Can't say the same for Allison, tho!
Our David came over to borrow Linc's truck today, as he has begun his big move to a new abode.  I provided them with lemonade and cookies which I made to ensure that the move went smoothly.  So we got to see him twice today, which was nice.  He and his friend, AJ are coming for dinner on Sunday.  It's hard to believe that he will be a senior when classes begin in September!  How time flies!!

AUGUST 26 , 2006
Everyone was able to come to Family Night, where we celebrated TJ's Birthday.  It is always so nice when we all get together- especially because the mothers of our two adorable girls do not seem to mind my holding the babies, so all night long I have one of them on my lap!  They can both sit up alone, now, and are really the happiest little ones I have ever been around.  Do I sound prejudiced?  Probably I am to a small degree, but they are amazing and such fun to be around!  I guess I had forgotten what fun babies are.
This morning we had to get up extremely early (for me, at least!) as the Carroll, Ohio parade was today and my Red Hat group had promised to participate.  The people who ran the parade really wanted us to be a part of it, so provided us with a large "flat-top"  to ride on, and even a shiny new red truck to pull us!  We had already created red umbrellas, etc, for the Pumpkinville Parade which got rained out last year, so we were ready!  It took us about an hour to put everything together, but we did look nice!  There were 8 of us who participated  We had a good time, and were received very well by the parade watchers!

August 23, 2006
I's certainly been a while since I posted anything here!   Things are not working quite right on my computer.  Rob helped me last night and I think I have got my Blog back  working again.  If you can read this, it is working!
A lot has happened since I last wrote:  We visited Granddaughter Katie in Salt Lake City and had a really nice time.  The mountains out there are  a sight to behold!!  Now when we speak of Katie, we can 'see' her in her home.  It was built in the late 1800's and she and Dave are restoring it in their 'spare' time.
Then we spent a week with Jean and George in their home in the North Carolina mountains. We used to visit with them at the lake but we have both moved.  Jean and George now live in Florida, and spend the bulk of their summers in the mountains of NC.   It was so good to see them again.  They are the youngest 80+ year olds that I know.  We did a lot of sight-seeing, and of course, played a lot of "Nickels" in the evenings.  We are hoping that they will come to Ohio next summer!
The Ohio State Fair was a teriffic 'happening' in Columbus, and of course, we had to go and see all the sights.  Linc got a break as Rob pushed me in the wheel chair. (I just can't do all that walking any more.)  We had a great time - spent over 5 hours there, saw most of the sights, including the Butter Cow and ate some good food!
And last week we went to the Bratwurst Festival in Bucyrus.  We were both a little disappointed that there was no one place where we could sample all the Bratwurst made in that town.  They say that there are many different kinds, but we could only eat one sandwich, so were not able to taste the different kinds of sandwiches offered for sale at the other booths.  However, we enjoyed the sandwich we did buy and were able to purchase some frozen Bratwurst there to bring home with us.
The tomatoes we have planted in the Patio Planter are doing great, and we have actually been enjoying the crops!
But the most important happening in all this time is that our two Great Granddaughters are now 6 months old!  We have enjoyed watching them grow, and can proudly say that they are both beautiful, smart and happy!!
